I got a rejection today for an anthology. It was a story that, if it would’ve been accepted, would’ve been my first acceptance that paid professional rates (5¢ a word). That was one of my goals as a writer this year, to have a story accepted under professional rates. I’m still hopeful I will achieve that goal this year, and I currently have another story in submission for another anthology (keeping my fingers crossed on that one).
But the point of this post is not to beat myself up or seek encouragement. Rejection is a part of writing and it’s a cold fact you have to learn to accept.
The point of this post is to not only share the bad news as well as the good of my writing endeavors, but to also reaffirm my passion for writing, my desire to become a better writer, and my resolve to achieve my goals – no matter how long they take.
